Phogat Sisters Olympic Dream End

Phogat sister’s Olympic dream end during the recently concluded Olympic qualifying Tournament in Ulaanbator. Mongolia Olympian and world championship medalist Geeta forfeited her 53kg bout against China’s Zhou Zhangting, while Babita failed to appear against Mexico’s Alma Jane Valencia.

Women wrestlers Geeta and Babita Phogat will be featuring in Amir Khan next movie ‘’Dangal” soon. They also face a possible life ban after forfeiting their repechage bout. The reason United World Wrestling (UWW) tough talk was the act of indispline commited by both Geeta and Babita in ULaandar.

They failed to turn up for their respective repechage bout despite announcements by the organizer. Phogat sister forteited their bronze match under injury default after they failed to secure place in Rio. But, head coach didn’t inform the UWW delegate about their injury.

According to senior Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) disciplinary committee, Phogat sister have been given a time till May 15 to reply. Lalita Kumari replaced Babita in 53 kg and Sakshi Malik in 58 kg in Istanbul.

The names of Geeta and Babita were called repeatly during their match at qualifying tournament. He immediately pulled up WFI chief Brij Bhushan Sharan singh for the act of indiscipline by Phogat sisters. which WFI made a decision to pulled back them fro Rio games and their Olympic dream end by their own cost.

Bhushan directly rang up the WFI office New Delhi and instructed the secretary to withdraw their entries from the next Olympic World qualifying tournament to be held in Istanbul. Turkey from May 6-8.

UWW had warned WFI that in case Phogat sisters are sent to any qualifying tournament. World wresling body will reject the all entries from other Indian wrestlers in different weight categories.

‘’India had high hope from Phogat sisters to bring the medal glory. But all that has come to an end and its terrible news for Indian wrestling. They thought they are above the federation and its rule and regulations, but they forget that everything they did was witnessed live by UWW chief and he did not take it lightly’’. Said a WFI official.
