US Challenged China, India and 11 Other on Navigation Rights Last Year

Us challenged China and 11 other countries for navigation rights last year. Freedom of navigation was conducted by US military according to Pentagon report released on Monday. Operations were against china, India, Iran, Libya, Malaysia, The Maldives, Oman, Philippines and Vietnam.

The US military carried out single operations were conducted against each of these countries, single operations against Taiwan, Nicaragua and Argentina for total of 13 countries.

What operations navigation involves

The freedom of navigation operations involves sending US navy ship and military aircraft into areas where other countries have tried limiting access. It was established to demonstrate international community does not accept such restrictions.

The US military repeatedly continue its operation disputing China’s maritime claims in recent year and did again in 2015. A year when Beijing’s island building activity in the resource rich area of Souh China led to rising tension in region.

US guided missile conducted a freedom of navigation patrol near of china’s man-made island. US military flights were warned off, but Navy would continue to operate in the region despite china condemnation of patrol, added US Defense Secretary Ash Carter.

The Navy would step up the freedom of navigation operation in South China because of concerns China is attempting to assert its dominance by building military facilities which can be bid thread for world. Harris, US Pacific Command said.

US restricted China last year its maritime Exclusive Economic Zone over East China Sea. The number of countries united State challenged last year was down from 2014, when US targeted 19 countries which was large number in more than a decade.

Iran and Philippines have been the most frequently challenged countries over the year, because they sit astride busy sea lanes they have tried to limit or govern the world.

US freedom of navigation operation lead to challenged China’s jurisdiction and airspace also which China make a claims in it.
