Sedition Case Filed on Rahul, Kejriwal, Yechury
A sedition case has been filed against Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, CPI general secretary Sitaram Yechury and six others for joining the JNU row and supporting anti-national speeches at Delhi.
(FIR) First Information Report was filed at Saroornagar police station by a group of Lawyers. Congress leaders Anand Sharma and Ajay Maken, CPI leader D Raja, JU spokesperson KC Tyagi, JNUSU president Kanhaiya Kumar and JNU research scholar Umar khalid are also included in the complaint. Kanhaiya and Umar Khalid have already been arrested by the police.
“It is a court-referred matter. Following the court’s directive, a case under section 124A of the IPC (sedition) has been registered against nine persons, including Rahul Gandhi, Arvind Kejriwal, Sitaram Yechury, JNUSU president Kanhaiya Kumar and others,” Saroornagar Police station Inspector S Lingaiah said.
“These students and leaders like Rahul Gandhi, D Raja and others are violating the Constitution by supporting the anti-nationals,” said the petitioner.
At a cultural programe, anti-India slogans were raised at JNU on Feb 9 against hanging of Afzal Guru and in support of separation of Kashmir. On Feb 13 leaders like Rahul Gandhi and Arvind Kejriwal also joined the row supporting anti-national activities at JNU.
Delhi Police were arrested Kanhaiya and Umar Khalid and this gave rise to nationwide protest and Several rivals of Bhartiya Janata Party joined it. It included parties of Gandhi, Yechuri and Kejriwal. They claimed that government is against the law of freedom of speech.
Goud said that anyone who is involved in anti-national activities or supporting anti-nationals in the name of law are questionable to court.
