Air Pollution Level In Kolkata Much Higher Than Acceptable Limit: The center for science and environment (CSE) has found that the city’s air pollution level in Kolkata is much higher than the acceptable limit. The CSE recommended that Kolkata should start acting on emergency pollution control measure like Delhi. A team of CSE researchers has analyzed the official ambient air quality data in Kolkata over the week. They found that PM 2.5 levels are three times higher than the standard while NO2 levels are double of what is considered safe. Air Pollution Level In Kolkata Much Higher Than Acceptable Limit

According to a report it said that “CSEs exposure monitoring provides clinching evidence of the alarming dose that an average Kolkata breathes on a daily basis in different parts of the city. It is 2 to 3 times higher than the ambient level recorded by official monitors”.

In just four year – 2010 to 2013 air quality monitoring shows a 61 per cent increase in particular matter. The report show that November onwards more days fall in the air quality categories of poor, very poor and severe which enhances public health risk.

The head of CSEs air pollution control campaign, Anumita Roychowdhury Said that Kolkata, while having made some strides in meeting air quality challenges, faces newer challenges. As per the new report due to low wind speed, every year pollution levels rise very rapidly in winter. Report also said that particular levels can be as high as four times the standards.
