Treat Yourself: Money Management With Benefits

(Image Link)

Money can be very depressing, a lot of the time. However hard you work, it can often feel like you’re always putting your money into things you’d rather not pay, not getting to enjoy the fruits of your labor. Of course, most money saving advice tells you to spend as little as possible, saving as much as you can. But, with this sort of attitude, it can be very hard to find motivation to be good with your money. To help you out with this, this post will be going through a method which is usually a lot better; the occasional treat.

Before you start spending, though, it’s important to understand why you’re doing it. Humans are very reward driven, like most animals with high-brain capacity. This means that you like to receive something for the work you do. In a lot of cases, when money is going to bills, rent, and other things, it can feel like you’re getting nothing for your work. This leads to people losing motivation in work, or, even worse, losing the motivation to save any money at all. To solve this issue, giving yourself the treats you can afford will make you feel a lot better. It may sound basic, but this sort of approach can have a huge impact.

Of course, to make this sort of thing work, you have to know when it’s best to give yourself a treat. In most cases, this will be after a big achievement, like getting a new job or promotion. Or, you may just feel like you’ve worked particularly hard. It doesn’t really matter what the reason for your treat is, as long as you have a reason to get it. Of course, though, there’s more to think about than just timing.

Along with knowing when to give yourself a treat, it’s also important to know how often to do it. This information can be figured out by looking into your budget. You should always aim to be saving more than you spend on yourself. So, using this as a casual guide, you can make sure that you’re not overspending on the treats you give yourself. For example, if you’d like to treat yourself with a new car, it would be worth selling your car first. This will ensure that you get something nicer than you already have, but most of the money will come from the old one.

To avoid letting this sort of effort go out of control, you have to be careful to make sure you’re not treating yourself too much. To do this, you should always make sure that the reason you have for celebration is legitimate. You should avoid treating yourself for the same achievement more than once, and should never get a treat for a normal day of work. Along with this, good monitoring of your money will also help you a lot.

Hopefully, this post will give you a good idea of what can be done when you’re looking for new ways to make money management just a little bit easier. In most cases, this sort of work will go a long way to motivate your saving. But, you have to be careful to make sure you don’t lose control.
