Feeling Romantic? Beware: Your Health May Be At Risk

When it comes to sexual health, people are happy to give a naughty wink and a cheap laugh. In truth, you should take the health of your reproductive organs extremely seriously. Men, especially, are famous for ignoring issues, and refusing to tackle serious health failings from erectile dysfunction to a loss of libodo, prefering to postpone the inevitable. Often, problems that are diagnosed early can be treated very easily and rapidly. However, sexual health is never a topic that people like to discuss.

It is commonly a taboo, and it’s often perceived as embarrassing to discuss such intimate issues in public. But to be honest, there is no need to go public about it as long as you talk to your doctor. He or she is the one who can help you best, and your friends will not need to know about any discomfort that you might experience down there. Additionally, as a follow up of a previous article on reproductive health, there are further health concerns that are intimately linked to everyone’s favourite bedroom activity. Here are the three most common health issues that you should pay careful attention to.

Sexually Transmitted Diseases

STDs, or sometimes called Sexually Transmitted Infections, STIs, or even venereal diseases are a common cause of shame for most people. People who suffer from an STD feel not only ashamed but also dirty, as this seems to be a very heavy psychological burden.

In truth, you should think differently about STDs. They are an infection, just like you would ask your doctor to treat an infection on your elbow or in your eye. The shame that most individuals feel is linked to the fact that there is only one way to transmit the disease or to be contaminated. While you are generally right, they are not called sexually transmitted infections for no reason, it is time to push your shame aside and to focus on your health, which is far more important! The causes for such diseases are varied: bacteria, parasites, yeast, and viruses.

But while there are more than 20 types of diseases, only a few of them are common, such as chlamydia, genital herpes or even syphilis. Generally, doctors are able to treat bacteria, parasites and yeast related illnesses very successfully with antibiotics. Unfortunately viruses can’t be cured, but they can be managed with specific drugs to keep the symptoms under control.

Surprisingly, a lot of STDs have very few symptoms and can show none for several weeks. Most commonly, you will find symptoms such as burning sensation when urinating, pain during intercourse, abnormal discharge from your reproductive organs. If you experience any of this, you may want to get tested, as they are typical symptoms, for which you can easily get a chlamydia treatment, for example, that can cure you with a single dose.

Lyme Disease

Lyme disease is the most-feared infection among camping lovers. Indeed, the disease is a bacterial infection that is spread by the bite of an infected tick. Ticks are commonly found in woodland areas and heath areas, and they make a habit of entering the household on the family pet, whether the dog or the cat. In short, ticks are difficult to avoid! But this doesn’t mean that they are all infected. Most people who are infected by the disease develop a particular circular rash around the bite mark that can expand over several weeks and flu-like symptoms such as fever, muscle pain, and neck stiffness.

Later symptoms can affect the nervous system and the heart, but unfortunately these are likely to last if the disease is not treated early. Doctors have now recently found out that Lyme disease could also be transmitted sexually from an infected partner to another. In the USA only, over 300,000 new cases are diagnosed yearly, making Lyme disease a place on the list of now common STDs.

Nuts Allergy

If you or your partner suffer from a nut allergy, you may want to be careful about what you eat before retreating to the bedroom together. Indeed, there has been recorded cases of sexually transmitted reaction to nuts that seem to imply that you should check your lover’s allergies to decide what to eat and how to spend the rest of the night. A case in the UK records a young woman suffering a severe allergic attack after her boyfriend had consumed nuts before a night of passion. The case is one of many that prove that nut proteins can be transmitted through the seminal fluid. So gentlemen, beware of what you eat!
